20. One artificial fly or nymph ONLY tied to a single hook no larger than hook size No 10

21. Boobies, eggs and other “flies” with foam in the dressing are not allowed

22. ALL fish over 3lb (or 20” length), ALL brown trout and all fish after an angler’s bag limit MUST be unhooked carefully and returned to the water in accordance with the Catch and Release Rules below.

23. Members MUST kill any fish which are diseased, malformed, damaged during catch or obviously out of condition and the Committee advised by a note in the catch book or if a serious problem by telephone to a member of the Committee.

Catch and Release Rules

26. Land fish as quickly as reasonably possible - don't play it to exhaustion. Small fish can be aquaplaned in close by keeping the head high in the current.

27. Use a stronger (i.e. 6 – 7 lb) leader than you would normally use for the expected size of catch

28. Wherever possible leave all fish in the water. Bring the fish to the side and unhook it in the water.

29. If a net must be used, the net bag should be made of soft material and unknotted, leave the fish in the water in the net while releasing the hook.

30. If the hook is in the fish's gills, throat or gut the fish MUST be removed and counted against the angler’s bag.

31. If a fish must be handled, wet hands first to avoid removing the protective slime on the skin of the fish.

32. No fish should ever be thrown back into the water.

33. All fish must be revived prior to release. Hold it in the water just above the tail. Push the fish forward and back slowly until it is ready to swim strongly on its own - this may take a few minutes. It does not hurt to revive a fish a bit longer than you feel is necessary. (When fish are released too quickly, they will often swim out of sight, lose their balance, turn on their side and die.)

Membership

34. All members of the fishery MUST be members of the Salmon and Trout Association.

35. Any Member wishing to resign from the fishery must send written notice to the Committee no later than 7th January 2011.

36. Membership of the fishery is limited, although a Member may purchase for his own use 2 rods i.e. a Double Rod. (note: - in exceptional circumstances the limit may be increased)

37. Members are to exercise all the rights and privileges hereby granted in a proper and sportsmanlike manner.

38. The committee reserves the right not to accept any application for membership or renew any membership or to cancel any existing membership at any time. In every case without affording a reason.

39. Rods are strictly non-transferable other than allowed under Rule 40.

40. A member will be entitled to introduce one fishing guest, who may fish with his or her own rod, and one non-fishing guest at any time. The guest(s) must be accompanied by the member at all times. The guest need not be a member of the S&TA, but if fishing must hold an EA licence and also have appropriate third party indemnity insurance which covers fly-fishing. Only 6 guests allowed throughout the season and the catch record must show against the member’s name “and guest” and give the name. A monetary guest fee will be applied from 2011 (to be advised) and if fish are taken member and guest joint catch must not exceed the member’s own fish limit.
